Established Artists in Hue Jia Ping

The artistic circle in SW China. All these artists have shown in China and some abroad. They are emerging and very talented. Chan Yu, Xiong Liyun, Roman David, Valerie Chang, Huang Ling











Xiong Lijun has exhibited internationally and is also an teacher at Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. Her work attracts a younger market (above right) Her work is about China, young people and consumerism.










Xioayan - Germany and now lives in the artist quarter and made his life here. His work is in collection in China and abroad and paints animated scenes of local people and life from Huang Jia Ping.


Yan Shu, International Artist, Art Director for Organ Space
He has major solo show in Australia and has played an important role influencing Chinese contemporary art from China.He is also professor at Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. He has set up an artist led Art Space and supports many young and emerging artists abroad.

His is abstract painter and expressive, using bold and colour brush marks and colour with some works influenced by the political situation and wars in the world. Very strking and impressive.
It was an inspiring visit.

Valerie was one of four people selected for this once-in-a-life time opportunity to gain international leadership experience and work with the Director, Yan Yan from 501 in Chongqing.

Valerie Chang is a freelance consultant, curator and artistic producer specialising in the visual arts, in the public, independent and higher education arts sector. She has a BA in Fine Art and Design from Bradford College, and an MA in Museum and Gallery Management and recently gained a Postgraduate Certificate in Cultural Leadership at City University, London.

She has over 20 years of experience and gained a reputation curating exhibitions in the Visual Arts for public museum and galleries. She has achieved a successful reputation supporting the work of emerging UK and International based artists. Entrepreneurial in approach, she developed her consultancy ‘Creative Impact’.

She has developed innovative projects and contemporary exhibitions at South London Gallery, Pitzhanger Manor Museum and Gallery in London, the Mayor of London’s Office, Royal Academy of Arts, Thames Valley University and Horniman Museum (2007-2008) and left a legacy and curated a stunning art installation “ The Mirrored Community. She is currently a consultant for the Museum of London, developing a project “Beyond the Public Face” for the new galleries to open in 2010.

It's february 2009 and the weather is warming up.
The CLP programme goes well and Valerie and Yan Yan continue to discuss new ideas.

We are now in the month of February and preparing for the visit by Sarah Deverall, Director of Chongqing, British Council and her team. This is Sarah's first visit to find out more about the good work of 501 and Yan Yan's team. Maureen Salmon, Consultant for the Cultural Leadership programme will also be visiting to evaluate the progress of the project.
