This is week three and its christmas day. I flew to Bejing on 1st December and then on to Chongqing 6 December. So much has happend, I am now renting a flat and started my placement at 501 Contemporary Arts Space. This is a challenging experience as not many people speak english and Chongqing which is part of SW China, Sichuan Province is less developed. It is currently going through some major challenges of transformation.
It is an exciting time to be out in China, where there is a dynamic young population and everyone has an excitement about trying new things. I remember one time China was closed to the world and it was my dad who reminded about this.
Now that I am hear living and working and experiencing life like a local person, its fascinating, basically they are living and aspiring to the same things as the west. Here it is a large consumer society, however they still hold on to tradition. Food is so important and everywhere there are food places to eat. I have visited the Three Gorges Museum which is fascinating and the centre of town. Its very modern and developing fast.
